MaxCDN Partners with NoNumber.nl to Create Joomla CDN Plugin

Through this plugin, Joomla – the dynamic portal engine and content management system – links with MaxCDN’scutting-edge Content Delivery Network (CDN) to accelerate Website efficiency

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 25, 2010 —

MaxCDN, a premier Content Delivery Network (CDN) provider based in Los Angeles, announces today the integration of a groundbreaking Joomla CDN plug-in for the leading content management system Joomla. A simple three-step process that takes less than 5 minutes to finish, the plug-in allows for easily integrating any current Joomla Website with MaxCDN’s services. The result is a notable boost in performance for any given Website, further building on the quick Internet searches and fast downloading experience that MaxCDN offers. The first of it’s kind in the CDN field, the plug-in project represents MaxCDN’s expanding ability to be the field’s leading CDN provider.

“We couldn’t be happier about the project and continued partnership with NoNumber, and look forward to working closely with Peter in the future, as we continue to do everything possible to be the best CDN provider.” MaxCDNs VP of Marketing David Henzel said. “While MaxCDN has always been the global leader in small static file acceleration on the Web, the new plug-in development project only helps expand our ability to make implementation easier for those customers who might not be as knowledgeable with Website development.

In the last year, MaxCDN approached NoNumbers Van Westen to create this plug-in, based on his notoriety in the Joomla community and his reputation as an innovative and forward-thinking Web developer. The creator of the two highest-rated extensions for Joomla, Van Westen was excited to embark on this cutting-edge creation. The relationship between Van Westen and MaxCDN is reflective, first and foremost, of MaxCDN’s commitment to its clients. A willingness to take on original ideas, while always prioritizing client’s ease of use, MaxCDN continues to provide the industry’s most competitive and cutting-edge services. Their latest project with the development of a Joomla plug-in is a testament to that, especially with similarly progressive future projects on the way as the MaxCDN-Joomla partnership moves into the future.

Peter adds: “It is a real honor to be able to work with and for one of the worlds leading CDN providers. Together we have managed to create a smooth and easy to use integration between MaxCDN’s services and Joomla.”

HostGator adds a global whitelist for MaxCDN IPs on their firewalls.

Hello everyone,

Some of our clients who host their websites with HostGator have been experiencing intermittent “502 Bad Gateway” errors with their Pull Zones. Investigating the issue, it appeared that some of HostGator servers’ firewalls have been temporarily blocking MaxCDN due to the traffic used to pull data off the clients’ origin servers in order to create the CDN cache.

Our system engineer, Billy Vierra, contacted David Collins (HostGator CTO) about that, and David Collis was very cooperative, he made sure all our IP allocations are globally whitelisted so this problem would never occur again, thanks to him.

For all our clients who use HostGator hosting, rest assured you shall never have to worry about “502 Bad Gateway” errors ever again.

Tutorial Released for Joomla CDN Implementation with MaxCDN

Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. MaxCDN supports Joomla, through their Joomla CDN which is powered by the Joomla CDN Plugin. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone. Since Joomla is such a widely used CMS, the need to implement it with a CDN is obvious. Here at maxCDN we want to make this integration as simple as possible for our customers so we teamed up with Peter Van Westen to create an easy to use plugin called TopCDN. Tutorial Released for Rackspace Cloud Implementation with MaxCDN

Cloud Hosting is a very efficient way to host some large files on a dedicated webspace while keeping the expenses at minimum, and there are many Cloud Hosting providers out there. On of the famous and most used Clouds is RackSpace Cloud. As cloud is not like CDN, means the server and what is hosted on it is at one place, those who download off of a cloud space will not benefit from the advantage of Geo-based download CDN offers – this is why the need to use CDN with Cloud hosting arose.

It is very easy to implement RackSpace Cloud with MaxCDN, it is actually a 3 step process.

  1. Upload your files to the cloud.
  2. Create a Pull Zone with the Origin URL of your Cloud Bucket
  3. Start browsing your Cloud-Hosted files via the CDN URL.

A thorough tutorial of how to implement RackSpace Cloud with MaxCDN can be found on our Wiki. Check out the article ( http://wiki.netdna.com/Implementation/Rackspace_Cloud ) and give us some feed back.

We will be adding more tutorials soon, so stay tuned!

Version 2.0 of our CDN Control Panel released!

We know it has been awhile since our last control panel updates were released, but we wanted to make this one a good one and come out with some ground breaking industry features that will make the NetDNA experience a memorable one. As with all our new features each was requested by our customers, and each adds a new level of flexibility and personal account management control.

New Control Panel Features:

File Manager 1.0: As the number one most requested feature from our media streaming clients our development team has created a new file management system accessible on all VOD Zones under the Assets sub tab. The new File Manager will allow you to easily copy and paste simple streaming video embed code for each of your video files utilizing Flowplayer with some skin customization, or by clicking the Other Players tab you will be able to copy and paste the code necessary to work with any flash based video player. Note that customers will still need to upload thier videos through FTP and SFTP.

Live Zone Provisioning: As a commonly requested feature for our video streaming clients direct from our media server partner Wowza Media Systems, it is now possible to provision a Live streaming zone in real-time. After payment of the $99 one-time setup fee and $150 per month minimum viewer hours fee the zone will be 100% active and ready for use. Any viewer hour overages will be billed the following month on the zone creation anniversary date. Newly created Live Zones are compatible with any Flash based RTMP or RTSP media encoder including Adobe Media Encoder Live or Wirecast, both of which we highly recommend.

Enable/Disable Robots.txt: Customers can now use a new Pull Zone feature to enable and disable the creation of a robots.txt file that they can also customize through the Control Panel. This feature will help the content to be considered as original and not duplicate as it will not allow the search engines to crawl the cached content on our edge servers. Thus it reduces the risk of existing SEO rankings being affected. This feature can be found under the Manage section of the Pull Zones dashboard page under Advanced Settings.

Set Default Cache Time: Under the Advanced Settings tab of the Pull Zone management settings, customers can now set a custom static file cache time By default our system will set a default cache time of 24 hours (1 day) for the max amount of time a static file will remain on our edge servers before we attempt to re-cache the content from the origin server. The new control feature allows each zone to have independent settings allowing the default cache time to be set to 1 day, 7 days, 1 Month and 12 Months.

Override Cache-Control Header: Under the Advanced Settings tab of the Pull Zone management settings, customers can now set whether they would like us to override the default cache-control headers that are sent from their origin server. This new setting is an override on the browser level for the max amount of time to cache a static file. Options for Max-Age browser value include No Override (Default), 1 day, 7 days, 1 Month and 12 Months.

Control Panel Improvements:

New Contact Us Form: Because we are very eager to hear what you think we have created a new contract us form that give you the option to submit an email ticket to one of four departments. Bugs will go direct to our development department, feedback will go direct to our management team, support and sales will go to their respective departments. We encourage all of our existing customers and potential new customers to contact us at anytime, beside the contract form for existing customer use, potential customers can contact us via email, live chat and telephone 24/7/365.

Column Sorting: It is now possible to sort zone information and customer information without having to reload the control panel page. This small but mighty feature should allow for a more pleasurable user experience.

If you have any questions or feedback of any kind please contact us!

MaxCDN Servers upgraded with Solid State Drives (SSDs)

We have upgraded all our servers (Pull Zone and Push Zone servers) from the normal Hard Disk Drive (HDD) to blazing fast Solid State Drive (SDD). By introducing the latest SSD technology into our network architecture we have successfully reduced our network latency by providing high-speed disk Input/Output capabilities, allowing us to deliver data and files faster.

SSDs are very different compared to the traditional hard disk drives in terms of how they write or retrieve data on microchips.

Advantages of SSD’s:

  • There are no moving heads or spinning disks which results in faster random access of data because there is no “Seeking Motion” as required in HDD’s
  • Consistent read performance because physical location of data is irrelevant for SSDs.
  • Lack of moving parts provides higher mechanical reliability, lower power consumption and emits less heat than HDD’s.

SSD’s in the servers will allow customers to have faster file operations, ultimately speeding up our Content Delivery Solutions even further. With MaxCDN you can always be assured that we will be quick to react to new technology changes and always pass on any network architecture savings and benefits back to our loyal customers.
